Nursing Software

Like all fields, technology has had a huge impact on the Nursing profession.  As a result, Nurses are always looking for the latest tools they can use to make them more efficient, accurate and safe.

The health care industry is on the cutting edge of using technology in all aspects of patient care.  In addition, there has been a tremendous emphasis on hospitals and other medical institutions to reduce costs.  Often times nurses are asked to take care of more patients in the past and in order to do so they need tools to help them save time and be more efficient.

Patient care is always goal number 1 for a nurse, and that is sometimes hard when they are asked to also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks.  Computers can help.

For those of you who are unaware or not sure what the term “Software” actually is, “Software” are the programs (ie instructions) that are loaded into a computer or computer like device to make it work.  A computer by itself is just a piece of electronics equipment.  It requires “Software” (aka A Program) to make it work the way we need it to.  For example, Microsoft Word is a word processing program/software.  It allows us to use the computer to write letters and other documents.  It turns the electronics into a device we can use.  Likewise, nursing software turns the computer or other device into a tool that nurses can use in a variety of ways.

With the recent advent of the iPhone, Android Phones, iPad’s, and other hand held computing devices, it didn’t take long for companies to develop a variety of programs and tools for nurses.  These devices lend themselves well to a health care environment as they are portable and their touch screen allows for ease of use and data input.  Also, with their familiar graphical interface, they are easy for the nurse to learn and use.  The last thing you want to do is introduce a product that requires extensive training as most hospitals simply do not have the budget, nor the time to train on a specific software platform.

Like all technology things change quickly and new products are being introduces virtually every day.  Our site will do the best to keep you apprised of the newest nursing software, nursing pda software and other similar tools.

Software is the code or instructions the device uses to perform the tasks we want it to perform.

PDA stands for “Personal Digital Assistant”.  This is the device that runs the software.  It is like a mini computer that the nurse or other health care professional carries with them.
